All three branches of the Jasper County Public Library are celebrating National Library Week, April 10-15, with a variety of programs and prize drawings.

  • A Coloring Contest will be offered at all three JCPL locations during this nationally celebrated event honoring libraries and library staff across the country. From April 11-16, children ages 3-11 are invited to stop in any branch of JCPL, pick up a coloring sheet and return the completed masterpiece by the end of the week. The pictures colored with the most originality will win a prize!
  • DeMotte Library invites all ages to enter their name in a drawing for gift certificates in the amount of $10 each to Dairy Queen. Sponsored by the Friends of the DeMotte Library, one gift certificate in each age category (adult, child & teen) will be awarded at the end of the week.
  • DeMotte, Rensselaer & Wheatfield Libraries invite you to stop in during the week of April 10-15, where there will be daily, random prize giveaways.

For more information about events offered during National Library Week at your local branch of JCPL, visit or call the Rensselaer Library, 208 W Susan St., Rensselaer, 866-5881, the DeMotte Library, 901 Birch St., SW, DeMotte, 987-2221, or the Wheatfield Library, 350 S Bierma St., Wheatfield, IN, 956-3774.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

Libraries today are more than repositories for books and other resources. Often the heart of their communities, campuses or schools, libraries are deeply committed to the places where their patrons live, work and study.  Libraries are trusted places where everyone in the community can gather to reconnect and reengage with each other to enrich and shape the community and address local issues.

Librarians work with elected officials, small business owners, students and the public at large to discover what their communities needs are and meet them.  Whether through offering e-books and technology classes, materials for English-language learners, programs for job seekers or those to support early literacy, librarians listen to the community they serve, and they respond.

Jasper County Public Library celebrates this week with daily prize giveaways, coloring contests and more. Check our events page for more information during this week.
