During the months of September and October, area artist, Doris Myers, will have pieces of her artwork on display on the Wheatfield Library’s art wall, located at 350 S Bierma St., Wheatfield, IN. Doris draws upon nature as her subjects for her paintings. She says, “As a painter and lifetime resident of rural Indiana, I am at home drawing upon nature for my subject matter.

Steve Overmyer has an eye for our feathered friends, and captures their grace, beauty and color with the lens of his camera every chance he gets. Wintering in Florida makes it easy to enjoy his favorite hobby, and still capture the essence of his favorite Indiana birds when he returns to the Hoosier state each summer.

“From the moment I picked up my camera, I knew this would never be a hobby for me, but a career.” Seventeen year old Bailey Allen found her niche in the art world while attending Concord High School in Elkhart, Indiana. She has always had a passion for art, but was inspired and encouraged by the art department at Concord in her junior year to continue in her love for photography.

Beginning May 2, all three branches of the Jasper County Public Library are launching “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten,” a program that encourages children ages birth through preschool to discover the love of reading.

In the event that an active shooter was to enter your place of work, school, shopping or areas of recreation, would you be prepared?

The Jasper County Public Library has partnered with Troopers Jacob Raupp and Ryan Hovarter of the Indiana State Police to offer two opportunities for you to attend ISP’s Unarmed Response to the Active Shooter training.
