September is National Library Card Sign Up Month, and in honor of this special occasion, all three branches of the Jasper County Public Library will be celebrating throughout the month by offering a small prize to everyone signing up for their first library card with JCPL.

Summer is here this month, and so is summer reading. There is a lot of science going on this year with FIZZ BOOM READ, so be sure to check out the exciting programs and events happening at your local library.

National Library Week honors libraries, librarians, and library staff all across the country, and is celebrated the week of April 14-19.

Barb Lucas

Barb Lucas has a passion for bird-watching and combines this passion with another; her joy for photographing nature. Our national bird, the Bald Eagle, and its return to the Northwest Indiana after many years on the endangered species list, is also a passion for Barb Lucas.

Mary Ann VanSoest

Mary Ann VanSoest started seriously working with art after retiring from a career in real estate. She experiments with different ideas and crafts her art sometimes using unusual elements.

Photo of the library's snow-themed winter wall

Create a snowflake at the Wheatfield library and help decorate for winter! Children are invited to make a paper snowflake this month and to show off their artwork on the library's winter wall. The wall needs plenty of snowflakes to stay cold, so be sure to stop by and help! For more information about this free program, visit or call the Wheatfield Library at 956-3774.

On Saturday, September 21 from 10-4, many booths and vendors will be open to visitors of the annual Sandhill Crane Festival and Car Show.

The Wheatfield Library invites everyone to stop by the library’s booth for face painting, and a variety of freebies, and the Friends of the Wheatfield Library will also host an informational booth during the festival.

The Jasper County Public Library would like to thank the community for the success of this year’s Summer Reading Programs! These programs would not be possible without the donations received from local businesses and organizations, the volunteers who help each week, and the excited patrons who participate!

Preschoolers who enjoy attending the Jasper County Fair are invited to take a break and hear stories and participate in other age appropriate activities during “Story Time at the Fair,” offered by the Children’s Department of the Jasper County Public Library.

School is out and summer vacation is just starting. But as Phineas and Ferb tell us, there are only so many days to do all the stuff there is to do before school starts this fall.

Don't sit around the house this Summer; sign up for Summer Reading at your local Jasper County library. You'll get the chance to win cash or prizes, as well as take part in some cool teen programs.

Entertainment for the entire family has arrived at the Jasper County Public Library in the form of Playaway View, an all-in-one video player that is ultra-durable and comes pre-loaded with only the best in kids’ video content.
