National Parks Week

It's National Parks Week and through Sunday, April 29, you can get into any national park for free.

This weekend might be a good time to take a trip to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore near Chesterton, or the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield, Ill., or the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Vincennes, Ind.

A little bit farther out is the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park in Ohio, or Mammoth Cave National Park near Bowling Green, Ky.

If you have a tablet or smart phone, this is also the week to check your app store for the free national park apps provided by Maine-based Chimani.com.

There is an app which lists basic information about all of the national parks, and detailed apps for specific parks with more information including trails, emergency info, photos, a trip journal and more.

These apps are normally available for $4.99-$6.99, but until Sunday, or until the site registers 1 million downloads, they are free.
