David Feldman is popular for his “Imponderables” books. Working as a columnist and sportscaster for a number of years, Dave has been asked questions during that time that he felt everybody wondered about from time to time, and decided to compile them into titles of his own.

Some of you might answer “Indiana,” some might answer “America,” while others might have strong ties to their cultural heritage and provide an answer that relates to places from which their parents and grandparents immigrated. 

Those of us who love books know the money that can be made from developing the perfect perfume: the one that smells like our first book, our favorite book, or just old books in general.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Similarly, when visiting neighboring states in the U.S., do as their residents do, and that includes learning their lingo.

Words are a powerful thing, and using them in the right context can mean the difference between getting what you want or walking away empty handed, and maybe even a little red-faced.

Ahoy mateys! September is pirate month, and September 19 be Talk Like a Pirate Day.

We at JCPL invite you to raise the Jolly Roger and get yore sea legs with some pirate-related booty here and abroad on the high seas of the Internet.

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month, and in honor of this special occasion, all three branches of the Jasper County Public Library will be celebrating throughout the month by offering a small prize to everyone signing up for their first library card with JCPL.

All year long the library has programs for book lovers of all ages, from infants to seniors. These programs are so ever-present that we just take them for granted. When do you have story time? Oh, there will be a new one any time now.

If you give a mom a muffin, chances are she’ll want a cup of coffee to go with it, and as long as it doesn’t get spilled, she’ll probably want a good book, too.
